Al

Al Keppler you are the man. Simply said. No butt kissing, just a simple hey, thanks that was pretty damn cool of you.

First of all, many of you who dont know Al, should look back into the archives and find all the times he has treated us to a little bit of his experience and has tried to teach us something. Tho dont call him a teacher, he will bite you head off and eat it, mate with you til he is done than eat the rest of you. But thats just Al.

This thread is different (imho) of how giving he is. He has brought us to a place that many of us cannot go, he is showing us correct procedure to ensure survivablility on a specific species of juniper, and collects it.

I am sure that future threads of this tree will behold styling options and future notes, opinions offered and dialog will ensue.

That is the nature of our BonsaiTalk community, and espesially AL Keppler. Always givin of himself to ensure that bonsai continues to enspire those around here.

I was thinking alot about posting this reply the last coupe days. I recently got my copy of BT 89. Granted the galleries and all are just great. But the Steve Giles story about how they went collecting hit a note with me. Spended story in it own right.

To me, I really do not need the likes of Bonsai Today. BonsaiTalk with Andy coming up with many many supporst, Al Keppler with his stories and reviews and how too's. Walter Pall and the masterful critiques he lays out in terms we all understand. Andy Rutledge with his essays on art and philosophy. Makes me really wonder why I need to look any further than all my friends here at BonsaiTalk.....

This is where it gets real. Not just behind to binded covers of mostly advertisements and two featurettes.

My opinon only

Paul

Paul,
I agree with you 100% when it comes to AL, Matt and Walter. They are very generous when it comes to sharing their insight and knowledge with us. I too loved Al's recent Mojave Journal. But I can't live without Bonsai Today. It's portable and I like to take it to work and in the car when I'm waiting for my kids. It gives me inspiration and I can't access BonsaiTalk in these situations. I just hope AL keeps up these excellent teaching posts. I will never doubt his love of bonsai or Matt's or Walter's either! The oaks were beautiful. You could take any one of them , dig them, plant in a show pot and put it on display with everyone thinking you had been working on it for years. Trouble was when I found the one I wanted, and started to dig, I found the trunk getting larger the farther I dug. After about 2 feet I decided that the tree were more akin to carrots than bushes.

I left them be. I did see a few dug though, and will be waiting and watching to see how they respond. If they make it, I know where they are!
