Minneapolis/St. Paul ALL WINTER - Agggggh

I have just changed jobs, and will be traveling quite a bit. It appears that I'll be spending most of Jan, Feb and March in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area (AGGGGGGH), with only brief return visits to warm up in California. Good job, exciting work but, I repeat, AGGGGGGH - the weather!!! I haven't even had a frost in the five years I've been in this house.

Assuming this poor California boy doesn't die, frozen to the arctic tundra, I will have quite a bit of free time in the evenings and weekends. Anyone know anything about bonsai activity in the Minneapolis area?

Thanks
Brian

Bonsai activities in the winter in Minnesota? Take up ice fishing, maybe?

Regards,

Matt

You mean to tell me that all those poor bonsai folk who live north of the sun have to sit on their hands and do nothing all winter long? How on earth do they survive? :-)

Marjorie McNeely Conservatory has a Bonsai Garden as well as others going on year round.

BONSAI ROOM at M.M. Conservatory

Also check in with Minnesota Bonsai Society, they hold regular meetings and would enjoy connecting with you. Being that we are in the arctic simulator tho, our bonsai are snoozing away til at least April.

Good Luck

Paul

Thanks for the info Paul. I'll certainly check out the conservatory and the club.

April eh? Here spring is February. I'll bet your spruces do better than mine though.

I gotta say tho, Minnesota is Larch country...and if you get up farther north (my area) in late spring, I will help you dig a few up......tho Cali may be a different kinda climate for them......but who knows eh?

There's Larch and Spruce up there. I'm only a couple hours away from the Twin Cities.

It's not as bad as you've heard it is up here in the snow country. 8-)

Well, I'm in Minnesota now. It's a balmy -5 F at the moment. Life is good. ;-)
