Seedling Ming Aralia as Bonsai

I am new to Bonasi. I just received a Ming Aralia and would like to train it as a Bonasi. It is about 15" tall and the trunk is straight & 3/4" across. It is planted in a small plastic nursery pot. Does anyone have any suggestions as to when & how I should repot it, trim it & begin to train it? I have 2 excellent bonasi books but no mention of Ming Araila.
