MIA: Artistic Foundations Of Bonsai Design

While lurking about the IBC I noticed a post by Andy Rutledge and wanted to see his posted bunjin shimpaku, but found that he had edited the pics/comments from the thread. While reading the threads follow-ups I came to learn that he redirected his Palavar site as well to the BTOJ site. Then I thought: OMG!!!!!!! That fantastic read on artistic foundation and bonsai design..........quickly checking, I found that it too has been removed from our access (unless of course you are a subscriber to the BTOJ) which I am not.

Tho I am choosing not to subscribe to BTOJ, I am saddened that I know longer have access to that fine piece of reading material.

Andy, for what its worth, I found your articles, opinions and insight to the bonsai community both interesting and educating. Sorry to see for whatever reason, you had to remove your stuff from the public (free) eye.

Paul

Thanks Carl...

For some reason, I had the URL as www.bonsai365.com/book I know that was Andy's old site, and thought I saved to favorites directly.....

Sweet, I am now a happy camper......

Hi Paul,

Andy requested to have his bonsaiTALK account removed a couple days ago, so if you want to contact him you'd be best off visiting BTOJ for an email contact link.

The most recent public posting I have seen by Andy was in the Garden Web Bonsai forum yesterday about midway down the page:

Regards,

Matt

Matt,

Now that was something I didnt expect. And perhaps its a guess, because I really dont know Andy that well, but an email from me isnt gonna do the trick.

Too bad this had to occur. But I am thankful to Andy that he left his online book open for us to read.

Paul

Personally I'm sad to see Andy go, I liked his way of doing things and liked many of his trees.

I wondered why he needed to leave? While not always in 100% agreement with him, I appreciated what he gave to this forum very much. BonsaiTalk will lose some of it's personality with Andy gone.

I agree, I have learned a great deal of artistic composition from just following one simple time Andy gave me. That tip was to not buy another bonsai book until I had purchased and read some books on landscape painting. I took that advice to heart, did as he suggested, and thank him wholeheartedly for that suggestion. Reading those books has opened my eyes and made me see what I was missing.

A sincere thank you to Mr. Rutledge
