Fish,

I seen the reference to the hair shirt wearers of old...figured it as a misspelling as it had nothing what-so-ever to do with the topic at hand.

I voiced solely on the concept of using odd numbers in forests as opposed to even. Although the "Ascetics" did leave a door wide open, I chose not to enter it, lol.

Will,

I am just proofing Ron's articles for free again.

By the way, I still agree with what Ron said - it is spot on the mark with regard to forests/groups I think. There is much more to write about aesthetics and art, but I don't think that that was the point of the original question from Arnie.

Regards,

Fish.

Sorry, I thought we were talking about odd and even numbers and what was more aesthetically pleasing. I made the mistake of assuming that this was a concept that spilled beyond bonsai, my bad.

Thanks Fish. This article isn't free though even if the proofing was.... You have to get a magazine to read all of it.
No matter how many times one hits spell check the words still get screwed up. Thank God for proof readers .

Just a bit of clarification. I never said odd numbers were not important. Just not the most important thing in the bonsai world.

Here is a cut thing about those hairdressers you mentioned Will
They do talk about odd numbers of pins but take a peak at some of the pins that they show on their website.
An awful lit of even elements in those pins of theirs )

Good, I am glad we are clarifying this concept. So what you are saying is that even numbered forests below the number of 10 trees are acceptable?

I just want to clarify your article above before I continue to comment.

Ron,

The site you quoted above plainly mentions to keep the number of pins odd as opposed to even. "Odd numbers of hairpins look more aesthetically pleasing in your hair than even numbers"

Using your comparison to the number of elements would be the same as commenting that one tree in the forest has an even number of branches. Let's stay on track here, okay?
