Mango Tree
I've read it heaps and know the answer, BUT if your were as stubborn as me and don't like the word NO, you would still try. So can you make a bonsai out of a Mango Tree, cause i have a few little suckers growing up in my mums backyard which will be killed otherwise, i know the leaves are huge but can you reduce the size, basically has any1 had any success with a bonsai mangoo tree
Thanks for the advice in advance... Jared

Hey peas, It's great you bring this up as I have been looking at doing a mango for a while now....We have thousands of mango trees all around us here and whenever someone trunk chops one the shoots that come out are amazing...You can't seem to kill them! I'm thinking doing a Vietnamese style full size tree in a custom cement pot As soon as I find the right tree! Happy Growing Tai |

I have never seen a Mango bonsai, as you mentioned the leaves are huge, also mangos are huge in comparison with a bonsai tree.
Just give it a try, maybe it could be reduced (leaves). Good Luck and give update about this .

I have several avacado trees that I found growing in the compost pile. It is a simalr problem to the mango. They have very large leaves that don't appear to have any chance at reduction. I have kept them alive and styled them anyway (if they ever bear fruit they will probably not be any good). I would not call what I am doing with them bonsai, but it is fun, and if I don't like the result I'm not really out anything. So my advice is to have fun not every tree you style has to be bonsai.

I've tried, got the trunk to about 2 cm on two separate trees and then cut the trunk to induce branching. Kaput. No leaves no branches no tree.
Avacado I've had more success with, they seem to have smaller leaves on new growth.
