Lucky Find
First i should start out by saying i have a large crabapple tree growing in my yard. Until yesterday, i had never witnessed one of its seeds surviving the annual attack of squirrels it recieves. I was walking arround the side of the house and found what can best be described as a literati style 1 year old apple seedling growing next to the air conditioning fan. Here's my question: can apple trees be used as accent plants? The one i have was growing in nothing but rocks and is only 1.5 inches tall with an already woody "trunk". The root system is very small, and so are the leaves. I will try to post pictures up tomorrow.
Thanks, Tom |

Yes, sure! Why not? A shohin or smaller flowering/fruiting tree can make a good accent for a larger evergreen to help suggest the season. It might not be a good accent for use with another flowering plant, though. Regards, Matt
