Looking At Trees

Last year was an enormously worthwhile year for me. I gathered alot of very young material and learned the basics of how to cope with a four season climate. Early this Winter, I learned a huge amount about how to develop young material in grow beds and grow boxes, all of which I will put to good use this Spring.

Since I've been active on this forum, I've really learned a great deal about how to "look" at trees. I learned the basics of how to style trees back in California. As I've learned from Walter, in the Classical (not to be confused with Classic) style. But on this forum, I've really learned alot about how to see what's in a tree.

As a result of this, I've 'raised my sights" this year and resolved to have a minimum of 2 decent trees in pots by the end of this year. I may have to buy them because I think the best of what I now have are 2-3 years away from going into pots. I have also resolved to focus on collecting better material. Oh, I don't know if I'll ever be completely immune to the pathetic little seedling crying out, "Take me, Take me". But I'm definitely going to be alot more ambitious with what I'm looking for.

Of course, we all owe a debt to Walter. He sets the standard for knowledge and civil discourse. But many others of you have also been most helpful and I wish to thank you all.

Happy New Year!

Fred
