Lonicera Nitida - What to do?

Hi,

I got this little tree as a present from Jerry Norbury, when he visited in Apeldoorn. It's a Lonicera Nitida or honeysuckle, which is 6 cm high and 5 cm wide. A very nice little fellow.
I know it's in the wrong pot, but I didn't have any other in stock.

My questions for this little one are:

- Which style would you apply?
- What kind of container would fit?

Please, if you can, make a nice virtual or drawing for me.

Thanks a lot, Wessel

tilt!

Using the second pic(right) I would probably tilt the lil lady on down so that the point tof the bend was almost straght up ,semi cascade (han kegnai) style and you could let some of the branches later on "droop" to fill it out , oh and grow the apex at a slightly bent angle back upward, and about 1 1/2 times as long as it is now.

I have a couple of these and I have had dieback problems. Sometimes a random branch will just....wither and die... over a week or so. It seemed like it was the apex generally, but not always.

The rest of the branches are healthy and strong.

Just something to keep in mind.

Oh, and they like a lot of water.

With a new tree like this, my approach is to let it grow and get it healthy as possible before repotting or re-styling it.
Just one thought.

Update!

Repotted in march 2006, this is how it looks now in its little 5 cm (diameter) Tokoname pot. How do you like the progress??

merry x-mas everybody

I like what you've done with this, Weejik. Is this how you envision it "finished," or do you have further plans for it? To my amateurish eye, it looks quite pleasing as it is. I'm trying to decide if I would like it just slightly better if you tilted it to the left a bit.

By tilting the trunk to the left some and then the canopy back down a bit, you'd end up with this.

I like the pic that Zen provided. I gives this little guy a bit more drama. You could also bend him out to the right and have a nice semi-cascade. Once this little guy flowers, the semi-cascade would look quite beautiful.

Just my 2 cents.

Thanks you guys, I have been wanting to do some more virts and playing around with images,...guess that's why I went a bit overboard,...no photoshop for a while, guess I was just a bit "overbored" myself. xD
