Is leafcutting in order here?
Is it too early? ONE day it got dry. All it took. That was a couple of weeks ago and not like it is here now (104 degrees)
whew. But, as the picture shows, the leaves not only got crispied, but the new leaves are coming in all ginky looking. I was wondering if a leaf cut (something I got away with years ago as a one and only time) would be of any help. Think cut or just leave it and keep it moist? The mother tree is in a forgotten shady spot that gets copious water every day with no attention and it is THRIVING. This lil air layer from a couple years ago is not. No root prune this year. Advice? |

Leaf cutting
Kazoo you might wanna do a search for leaf cutting maples. Feedback statesd that leaf cutting is for maples that are towards the end of their branch development, not during (The picture does not give any indication as the stage of development). I understand that the crispy leaves are unsightly but that might just be something you have to live with for a while, and learn a lesson from it.
As far as the 'ginky' leaves go, it may be a matter of a defficiancy in nutrients or water in general. Air layered plants do tsake some time to recover and develope a sufficient root ball, maybe even more time that what this one has had so far.

Put down the shears and no one will get hurt.
![]() Just leave it be, the brown tips aren't hurting anything. The leaves are still making plenty of food. If you cut them now, the tree will have to call on its reserves to put out more. Unsightly leaves will either be retained and used or will be dropped. Joanie
