Large Pot?

I bought a large white pine awhile back. The tree was collected a year or so ago, and has been growing in a large fiber type circular pot. I would like to get it into a bonsai pot, but am having trouble finding a pot large enough. The finished size is going to be about 38" high by about 18" wide, something like that! The tree is a double trunk. If I go by the 2/3 rule, the pot would need to be about 26" x 12" x 4". I wouldn't mind using a Mica pot, cost is an issue! Does anyone have any ideas, or should I go with a smaller pot?

Did you buy the tree as a finished bonsai? If you did then you are looking for a suitable show pot? If the tree is not finished, then it could be planted in a mica pot or a suitable wooden container till the tree reaches the desired state of refinement. If you put it into a confining bonsai pot, the branch refinement or trunk caliper will be hard to do.

It would also help to hear from what neck of the woods you hail from. I could give you more advice about pot sellers in your area.

The tree hasn't had much done to it. I plan on doing the major restructuring next year. I would like to find a pot that would be deep enough. I am not looking for a fine pot, just something better than what I have. The trunk thickness is about 3 1/2" across, so that's not a problem with this one.
I am in So. Oregon. There's not much of a selection of pots or accessories around here. The few local shops only stock the smaller type pots. Go figure!!

If the tree was collected 1 year ago and you plan on major restructuing, it's not ready for a finiished size bonsai pot. Put it in a growing box and start tucking away $10 per month towards your pot. When the tree is ready you'll have the money.
