Lace Leaf Maple
I purchased a lace leaf maple in October of 2005. I thought this tree had died during the winter, but i recently went outside and notice that this tree is buds below the graft site. My question is this, would it hurt the tree if i cut right above the graft site, the apex of the tree seems to be dead?

The top is probably dead. Grafts are done to get less hardy stock onto hardier root systems.
Note however, that the base below the graft site is probably NOT a laceleaf. It is probably a simple generic maple stock with pretty regular leaves. |
