Kingsville boxwood and the winter
I want advises from your experience..........
I have a collection of a few Kingsville Boxwood trees. I never thought the weather to be this cold, here in Austin, Texas.......... ( its 30 high and 22 low ) I brought few of the trees inside and let few stay outside......... For the trees outside, I put mulch to cover the pots.......and a plastic cover on top........... What will happen ? Will the trees withstand the freeze............. Some say, Kingsvilles can stand the freeze....... Please help me with your experience Thanking you all vijay |

i always bring my kingsville inside, but i hear they can withsatnd temps that drop below freezing. i keep all other other types of box outside, but for some reason i treat the kingsville as a sub tropical. being in texas they should be alright.

I have kept 2 Kingsville outside all winter for the last 2 years. I keep them on the east side of of my house. They are out of the wind and mulched about half way up the trunk. Both winters we have had below zero temperatures and they have both done fine.
I have read that it is not very good to cover your plants with plastic because it could cause your leaves to burn if it is touching them. here in Ohio if we are going to have a late spring frost, most people cover their plants with bed sheets. |

Even though Kingsville boxwoods can withstand the cold, I like to protect them from frost or extreme cold because it causes the leaves to turn and as slow as kingsvilles grow it takes a long time to recover.
