Unhappy Karate Kid Actor Dies

Hello All,

Just searching the international news on the BBC site, when I came across this story.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/4471060.stm

Pat Morita was well known to many Bonsai fans as the "Master" in the Karate Kid series of movies that have been mentioned in many threads here on bT.

May a little tree be waiting for his tendance in heaven.

Regards,
Ian.

Oh this is to bad,his movies are credited with bringing more people to find bonsai and/or martial arts than one can count.

His is quite the success story. From a Japanese-American internment camp to
a pretty decent character actor. Gotta love movies with martial arts, bonsai and a moral!

I also can say that its through his movies I first heard of bonsai. (me girlfriend reakons she new bonsai before that,... but a dont think she could identify a daisy from a buttercup).
Anyways, sorry to see the wee Man has passed on. I'll drink to his memory tonight (and that of George Best) May they all rest in peace.

Same here, the first time I saw a Bonsai was in the first movie Karate Kid. Though I didn't try growing one then and I tried many time years after.

He was a good man. He was from humble beginnings, and touched so many people in his lifetime.

Damn, I just watched the movie this morning. I can't believe he's gone. I really like the symbolic meaning of bonsai in the movie and wow, can't believe he's dead.

Karate Kid was a great movie, it is one of the few martial arts genre movies that is focused less on fighting and more on psychological development. We only see daniel actually fighting for a couple minutes at the end, but the majority of the movie is composed of training, just like training bonsai-- it takes the longest time to start a tree from nothing and into a bonsai, but when you finally get to that final stage, you realize that it was the training that was the most important part.

Goodbye Mr. Morita, thank you for your contributions
