Hi all,
Here is a thought that I had. Could you not also use a plastic Milk carton carry that gallon jug of milk are delievered in. It is a square box shape that could be lined with screen and then fill with your favorit soil mix what ever that maybe. Also if you were going to make one out of wood what kind of wood would you use. Oak, Cedar or maybe pressure treaded? The last one I would think would be a bad choice because of the cemicals use in it. Now with the Oak or Cedar would you varnish it or use some other type of wood protecter.

"To all of you that do not have a field to grow trees out, what is your solution?"
I have very limited space for in ground growing, so I just grow my trees out in larger containers using regular soil mix. I also shy away from material that needs extensive "grow out" time. I try not to fool myself into buying a tree that requires such care. I try to work with older collected material. Takes longer and is a litle frustrating, but its sutied me for about ten years now. |

First whatever tone I used that sounded angry, I tried to negate by assuring you that I value your input. You've helped me more than I've probably thanked you for. My response to the first quote above was tempered with the supposed understanding that you hadn't read my suggestion (which I take was correct seeing that you say you went back and read...). The air and light from in-ground growing wouldn't be enough to prune roots as the above quote suggested . You went to the trouble of answering something when you hadn't even seen what the question was. This has happened a few times (not by you) to me so I wanted to stress that your reply wasn't validated. I also want to point out (though you'll have to search if you want to actually find it because I don't have the time) that I MYSELF (pardon the redundancy) first brought to light the possibility that my hypothesis of the roots being severed by the plastic could very well be faulty. I'm well aware of roots' frenzy to survive, and in so doing breaking thru barriers in their way. I've been a victim of tree roots growing thru sewer pipes. WF

I also have growing beds at my home, in fact even in the landscaping, there is very little that isn't future bonsai stock. Without land, I would buy developed stock, in fact, I do now even though I am growing some. Quote:

just a question
I guess that it is time to post some pictures of what can be done with material that has never seen the field. I will try to get the camera out in the next few days. I will only show pictures of material that I have grown from liner or grafting or seed. I hope that it encourages others to try to grow some of there own material.
