I use a small electric cable hoist attached to a roof beam in my garage. It will handle up to 400 lbs. I use a 1/2 inch soft nylon rope around the trunk.
The right tools make hard work easy.

oh my goodness node.... you're either very brave or completely insane What a gorgeous cactus.

Mike, that's great. Are you able to do it on your own then, with the crane? Or do you still require someone else to help you? Does the rope dig into the tree?

I can manage any size tree on my own. The rope is large enough and soft enough so no damage is done to the tree. In the case of pines, some soft foam padding is necessary so as not to damage the bark.

All my heavy trees are on benches that are accessible to my hydraulic cart. I can raise and lower the cart to match the bench height, and then slide the tree from bench to cart. No lifting necessary. At my age and considering my back condition, the less lifting, the better.

Mike
