Carl

Do you typically remove the mulch again in the spring? (spread it around, not discard).

Jerry

Jerry:
After the winter, I take the Mulch in buckets and spread it in between my bushes in the flower beds. Its supposed to keep down the weeds, but not here in southern NewJersey!!

I have found that the mulch will grow all kinds of mushrooms etc if I leave it in the garage during the summer.

Hi Carl!

I sent you an email for instructions about wintering. Any help is appreciated. Jeez-bonsai require more work than my son and animals combined! Hahaha!
Cold morning here in So NJ!

Thanks!

Melisa,

Some good advice in the above posts for you, hopefully 'Jasper' will make it through okay.

It seems like as long as I don't name them, they seem ok.

Hmm. I think the problem is not that you are naming them, but more likely that you are naming them incorrectly. I feel sure that if you re-name Jasper as 'Reclining Dragon' everything will be fine.

Regards,

Fish.

Consider it done!

I visited RC in his new domain in my Zen garden. He is being protected by a very friendly Azalea that was repotted there from another part of my yard & is doing quite well. His other neighbor is a Juniper ground cover that has been there for several years. I figured if both of these plants are doing well in this bed, it should be a good recovery spot for this tree!

Thank you everyone---your posts have been enjoyable & educational--Ill keep everyone posted on my progress.

Hmm--haven't heard back from dear Carl--hope all is well. Anyway--some wintering tips greatly appreciated--they are calling for a terribly cold night here. Would love to know what to do w/my other trees. In the meantime, Im placing them in a container w/some mulch to help keep their tootsies warm-

I went through 90 some Emails this morning and there was none from you....

Please post your Email address here, so I can go into my spam program and put your Email address on the friends list. Right now if you are on, say AOL, it is probably being deleted before I see it.

By the way. One thing you should be doing with your trees right now is leaving them outside....

It is imperative that trees are exposed to the cold weather for awhile.... We haven't had a real "below freezing" temperatures here in Southern NJ.

There is a mechanism in trees that starts a sort of anti-freeze within the plant. With out the plant getting exposed to the freezing temperatures for a short time, they will not survive the winter.

I never put my trees into a protective area (garage) until around Thanksgiving....

BONSAI HELP

Hi Carl--it could be because my address is w/Yahoo and Im sure your spam thing is kicking me out.

My email is MISCLAIMS@yahoo.com.

Thanks again for your help!

I have my other trees in a bucket w/some mulch at the bottom and some at the top due to the frost warnings we have had and we have had some temps here almost freezing (34 & 36) here.

Thanks again!

Melisa
