Barczak, Think you could get the seller to hold this for you, say another 45 days or so!
Might have a better chance for survival. Your temps in 45 days should start moderating, and even if it stays chilly late, the indoor exposure (not the best for junipers) will be minimized. I, once brought some junipers back with me from FLA., and the keyword here is once. They didn't fair well, the cold the following winter did them in. I think the genetics of a true FLA. plant push them past their limits up north.

I "import" Junipers from Florida on a regular basis even during the winter and they have all done well.
I live in Michigan and I keep them in the greenhouse at work in a cooler area at about 45 degrees. When the weather warms I put them outdoors and let them ease their way into the following winter gradually. My Florida supplier buys the trees from a grower in N. Carolina. So its not like they have been in warm weather all their lives.

Good point. You won't unless you have a unheated garage or shed. The point is don't let it freeze now.

If the tree is not too expensive and you don't mind potentially wasting the money go ahead and try it. Is it starter stock or more developed material?

The best advice is to wait until spring is upon you and order it then. Better chance for survival.

barczak769, you are seeing one of the difficulties in purchasing a tree from a climate much different from yours. Trees coming from Fla to you are not going to like the change this time of year. In addition, the shipping conditions are not controlled. If you were doing this in say Late April or May it would be far less of a problem.

Generally speaking it is far (FAR) easier to deal with a tree coming from your own growing zone. The best is one native to your area. If you go afar for the tree, the more the difficulties come into play. This said, sure with the right conditions it 'could' work.

Really...how important is this tree? A good deal on a tree that may not make it...well, isn't such a good deal!

my two cents
