JM Transplant

I have a healthy 2 1/2" Japanese maple that I planted in the ground from container stock about a year ago. I have to relocate or containerize it immediately. Any advice or techniques that would improve my chances of success would be appreciated.

Thanks,
DR

Keep as much of the original root ball intact and undisturbed as possible to avoid unnecessary stress to the roots. The more dirt you can keep, the better.

That's good advise and you should have a good chance for success. Put it into as large a container as you can find and keep it in a shed for the winter out of the wind and sun. There is still a lot of time left before the bad weather starts so it should be alright.
