My gut feeling is that JWP is more a European tree certainly at the intermediate entry level. i.e. for those who are pretty well up to speed with what bonsai is about, are gaining confidence in their abilities and are fed up with 5-8 years of sticks in pots and Xmas present mallsai.
Trees like Whitepine's and mine are very available part trained in the $150-300 price range. I don't see much black pine at any of the shows or local outlets - JWP always feature large. I saw an absolute corker at a show last week and for once it didn't have that monstrous graft kink trying to hide behind the No. 1 branch. Hooray :-) TimR
