Japanese Black Pines

Hi i was wondering if someone could tell me how to get branches to form on some japanes black pines. I have 3 that were grown from seeds, and they are about 1 year 6 months old , sprouted in january of 06, they are growing good but no branches, how can i get some branches??

Feed them well and cut back in June. Just make sure you cut back to just above last years needles. Do not cut back to where there are no needles.

cool that will do it... wonderful i am so proud of these seedlings as i have grown them from seeds myself, nothing is more rewarding..

Cool...I just had about 100 sprout. It is fun. I now have about 200 growing. Make sure you put some good bends in the trunks now. It will only take about 6 months to shape them and scar the trunks if you are into that. I scar some and grow some slow without scaring.

sweet thats what i want to do. I really want these seedlings to work out. Do you know of any good sites that will help me, i have never worked on a pine before, i have all these books that i have read and re read and still clueless...lol

Me too...even after 10 years of working with them... I think at 20 years of working with pines you're suppose to know something about them. You will learn allot this year by watching what happens after the cut. Study candle work also. Balancing growth is really important once you get the braching to work with.
