Instant Bonsai

One of the clubs that I belong to, Hanford Bonsai Society, Asked for donations for the annual plant sale at a local craft fair called Medaka No Gakko. This is a major fund raiser for the club and the plants are donated to the club to make 100 percent profit. I was running out of time and had not prepared a plant to donate to the club. On the way home from work one day I stopped at a rose nursery, on theoff chance that they may have a juniper or two that I could hack up. I found only 2 plants in 1 gall. containers and they were these juniperus sabina "buffalo". I bought one for $5.97, and took it home. This is how it looked when I got home.

When I got home I pruned it up, applied lots of wire, and started torqueing this poor plant to the limits of its life. I found an old deep ceramic training pot and threw it in that. I took the plant to the meeting and they used it as an example of what kind of plants they were using for the sale. Everyone was asking me how long I had been training the bonsai. It was real hard to keep a straight face while telling someone that it had been in training for 5 years. Then I would shock them and tell them that I made it the day before in about an hour.

I was going to say, what a great tree. But it is really what a great "eye". I probably would have walked right by it, but you saw the tree in the tree. Good job!

hey, i was reading through and found your post about instant bonsai, Al. and thought that was an excellent bonsai, and i would be satisfied to get something like that in a few years or more, do you have any tips , or steps or anything to get anything like that, pretty quickly, i would like a bonsai to show in a few months, to a year like that one

FYI, If you have a question about a past thread, please post the question in THAT thread rather than starting a new one.

It will save me a lot of time trying to figure out what you're talking about and recombining the threads, and everyone will know what you mean. It will almost work like a real forum.
