Ice Storm

Electrical power has been intermittent today. It seemed like a perfect time to experiment with some new photography equipment and enjoy the storm. As I walk through the forest, I can hear the creaking of trees and the falling of branches. The ground crunches under my footsteps.

Photo 1: A typically vertical birch is horizontal from the weight of ice
Photo 2: Rhodo on the rocks
Photo 3: White pine needles covered in ice
Photo 4: Ice bush
Photo 5: Birch - the top of this tree has touched the ground
Photo 6: Empty bonsai gallery - (the trees are inside, safe from the storm)

Enjoy the photos!

-Candy

Candy, many thanks for showing these magnificent photographs, they are absolutely stunning. Fortunately, where I live, I can't enjoy(?) these conditions first hand. I am visually cooled down though in the 100f we are having today.

Regards Ash

Magic landscapes Candy

Like Ash, we never get any conditions like that here, so it is nice to see what sort of conditions you guys all have to experience.

Thanks

Ken

Good camera - great photos. Would love to see your display with trees on Candy, it looks like a nice set up. What you can do with a lot of space.

You're out walking in the woods after an ice storm? That snapping sound isn't a good thing especially if you're under it.

Candy,
Thanks for the pictures. The Camera and the subjects are wonderful. The one big advantage we have up here is we don't even think about leaving our trees outside. Thus they are 'almost' always safe from those storms.

Keep the pictures coming.

rockm, my thoughts exactly

Candy great shots, especially like white pine. Out of curiosity, what are you using for your display stands. I like the flared base, better than my terracotta tubes.

Gday Candy!

Thanks for the cooling pics - #4 in particular is a real gem! (The last time I checked, it was still 34C (94F) here at 2230... ) It's great to see that you still have a lawn. I look forward to seeing your trees come out of hibernation.

Thanks.

Fly.

Candy,

Beautiful photos. Thanks! I always enjoyed seeing the sheaths of ice on the trees when I lived in the Chicago suburbs. It didn't happen too often, but it was always quite stunning, especially if the day was cold and clear, and the sun was sparkling in everything one looked at.

For those concerned about the photographer's safety: Probably no need to worry. By the time she was out there, most of what was going to come down had already done so.
