i have no experience in pines... need halp

hallo
i have about ten years of bonsai experience but i have close to zero experience in pines becose they are not comon in nurcerys in israel.
i need help in understending the way they grow...
i found an old nurcery stock (very old) of pinus pinea and i need to know if i can cut the trunk and leave no needls or i must leave some branches?
any halpful tips and info will be wellcomed

Until then, you might want to consider the fact that with most pines cutting back any growth to a point where there are no needles is the kiss of death. If you think you can trunk chop a Pine like you would an elm, which is how I read your original post, you will kill the tree. I know that this species of Pine is a bit different than its more temperate brothers but, the only person I know who does some great work with this tree is Ernie Kuo who does not post here often. By the way I grow mostly Pines but not this one.

I highly suggest you go here http://www.stonelantern.com/bookspine.html
and order this book. It will help you better than anyone can really explain here in a short period of time. I bought it and it did answer alot of questions I had.
