Huntington Gardens

Today I took a trip to the Huntington Gardens in San Marino, CA. Not only do they have a very nice and diverse botanical garden, but they have a wonderful Japanese garden, plus a bonsai and suiseki collection. They are going to open a chinese garden within the next few years.

I took pictures of about half their bonsai collection. I didn't get all of the artist's names, but I got some of them. They have a very extensive collection, and I would highly recommend going there to see them yourself.

Well, here's the pictures:

This was one of my top 3 favorite trees in the collection, a Pomegranate. I wouldn't be able to fit both my hands around the trunk if that means anything to you. Although you can't see it on this picture, it was bearing several large fruit as well as many flowers.

The pictures in this thread are from the Golden State Bonsai Federation, Collection South, which is in the Huntington Gardens, San Marino, in Southern California. In both the Collection South and the Collection North, which is located in Lake Merritt Park, Oakland, California, none of the trees are marked with the owners names. (Most trees have been donated to the Collections and are owned by the GSBF). Even at our Bonsai Shows, in California, we do not name the owners of the trees. It is both a tradition and a security issue.
Don't feel badly about not having the owners names of the trees.
We're happy that you visited this garden, and if you are ever near Oakland, come look at the Collection-north. Its presentation is quite different from that of the South, and both collections, however different, are outstanding.
