How to treat some wood rot?

Hi guys. Quick question. I have a very old Ponderosa pine that is starting to get some wood rot in the crotch of a branch and the trunk. I scraped off the soft stuff and am wondering if I can paint the area with lime sulphur to stop further rot? Seems I read this somewhere but can't remember where. If yes, do I dilute the lime sulphur or use it strait from the bottle? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Sandi

See the use of Lime Sulphur thread . There are some pretty experienced people discussing the subject in that thread.

Use it straight from the bottle. Pour it into a smaller container and use a brush. Do this outdoors. It stinks!

The wood hardener is very important, especially on ponderosas. Dead wood does not keep well, even with the wood hardener, but it helps.

Use it straight.

A better option may be marine wood preservatives or commercial wood hardeners like Minwax. If you want the white lime sulphur look then you can sand off the top layer after it is dry and add the solution.

Regards,

Fish.
