How old were you when you started bonsai?

I just thought it would be interesting to find out the aproximate age of people when they started bonsai!

The age put in must be the age you became really interested in bonsai not the age you recieved your first mallsai.

Please feel free to start a discussion to try and explain the trend in the votes or anything else you would like to state related to this topic.

18 stationed in Japan, actual hands on 28. My daughter started at 5, she's 10 now. I can't wait till she's 28. If she's still with it...should be awesome

i must have been about 5. I went to a plant nursey with my dad to buy compost, bedding plants etc when i saw a 100 year old maple on a bench. tried to grow some JBP seeds when i was 9, got my first mallsai at 12 but i didnt get into it proporly until i was 16, collecting maples on my walk home from school.

I was 19 but I'm only 21 now. English elms, JBP and maples got me started.

Well...I always loved Bonsai. Started down the road...so to speak, when I was in my late 20's. Family and living conditions ended it. After retirement I started my love and interest on a more regular basis.

Been interested for years and had never taken up the habit until a friend convinced me to "do something with my English Oak" I had grown in a pot and neglected for 13 years. Have started to train it over the last 3 years of Bonsai practitioning and school.
It might be nice one day

I started actively growing bonsai about 15 years ago when I was in my early 30s, although I had been interested in bonsai for 5 years before that.

The purchase of my first "outdoor" bonsai coincided with the purchase of my first house. I finally had more space than the bathroom and kitchen to work

I've only been in this for just under three years . . . one spent reading and not doing, and two doing. That means I was (counting on fingers) 45-1/2 when I first became interested and started doing the reading. I joined my local bonsai club one year ago. Last night I received word from the club secretary that I had been nominated for the position of director-at-large. I don't get it. I'm not that experienced and I'm not that large. Oh, well...
