eeiko...

im being realistic, if u live in the city a bb gun or air gun is aobut as far as u can go for that thing. for myself i live on a farm, i have a 22 by window and i shoot coyotes all of the time chasing the sheep and chieckens, no joke...
but not every1 can pull out a 22 and fire at their neighboors cat, thats isnt very realistic.
ive shot stray cats before but for me its a different case, not from bonsai but from killing chicks.

...also that a bbgun or air soft gun costs bout 40 bucks, a rifle plus a gun liscense can be pretty expensive if u buy from a gun shop...

so i am being realistic by including everyone else into my point of view,

i know im just sorta new to this site,

but ide like to say that everyone should be able to say what they want to say without getting hassled...

plus im not saying that i dont like cats either, they r useless, but not every1 is willing shoot a mushrrom to it

well, thats that.

but how do you know he or she isnt a 60 yr old?
they may never have the heart to shoot anything.

and plus, how do u know he or she lives in a city block or an apartment, and its getting in the courtyard?.....

farm is different dude...

id love to use a bb gun on a cat..and im sure many others here would too...
but you see.... a bb gun is illegal in alot of international countries... inlcuding australia and NZ incl many others.

so the spray is more of a preventitive than a cure.
do i not have a point?

ALF! The alien, not the organization. They both love cats, but in different ways.

Moth balls distract them, place around the pots. Don't use if you have young kids, as the camphor in the balls is poisenous.

Cats don't like the smell of citrus fruit, and I can confirm this! When I was younger (in my naive kindness) I offered my cat some of the orange I was eating. It sniffed at it, then prompty vomited on the hallway rug.

I have a dog, just it's scent seems to distract cats from the garden.

There are other devices you can buy, which squirt water at pests using movement sensors. Usually used to stop birds, cat etc getting at your goldfish or koi.

The devices that make ultrasonic sound are pretty good too. They can irritate the ears of kids (another bad childhood memory), but once you get over the age of 20 you tend to stop hearing higher frequency sounds.

Where I live it's completly illegal to shoot anything with a pellet gun or live ammo, but with all these other options guns are unnesesary.

first off, from the very front of this article thing, bohne was asking for any info.

secondly, i wasnt impliing that he/she lived in the country yard i was saying what i would do to maybe give bohne a better idea of what to do, u know? and i know farm is different, i lived in the city before too...

also i have never been to austrailia or NZso how would i know if they r illegal or not, it isnt up to me to decide this for bohne im just trying to help.

and im not going against using the spray, once again im just saying about my point of view, everyiones views are welcome are they not??

you do have a point but i just think that everyone elses should be welcomed too , even if they are more extreme like mine.

sorry bohne and everyone else.

I like fox's sugggestions but they are somehat impractical for an urban environment.
Personally now, I throw rocks at them as I like to try to improve my accuracy and they make a great moving target. :-)

Before i get lambasted for being Cruel and mean, I actually like cats!, but I do not have one myself and I believe that I shoudl not have to put up with being pestered and annoyed by someone else pets.

I have used and do recommend as a permanent deterrent a plastic squirt bottle filled with Methylated spirits and water. Mix it 50/50 and squirt the animal as it runs away. The Rear end of it is very tender and when squirted with Metho it tends to irritate it for a while. Cats are smart and will NOT come back the same yard after being treated as such.

In most Sydney areas is fine to trap a nuisance animal and take to the pound. Cat traps start at about $80

Iv'e got an idea which I use on my cats, buy a cheap water pistol fill it up and everytime the cat decides to chew on your bonsai, give them a quick squirt! They soon learn not to chew on them.
