Hope the crappy weather doesn't FINISH the bonsai.

Gotta go outta town for 6 days. Forecast (hahahahahahaha) calls for some 80+ weather (which is now 2 days late) and so I have to put the dripper on 20 minute cycle. Hope 6 days of sogging them with a good possiblity of a lousy, gloomy day like today and the past 45 or so doesn't finish them off.

Had a friend take care a few years back. Lost 1 special one. Have never (knock wood) had a loss on the drip system.

But this CRAPPY weather is either gonna kill them or ME!

In the 40's now as I post. Wheeee!

Paper sez that this California pattern could last another THREE MONTHS!

Cripes!

Kazoo, you should move to BALMY New England for more predectible weather...last week 75-80 degree days. Last night mid 30's... one of God's crule jokes.

Huh? It's Not Delightfull?

Got that right Moe, January had 60's, tonight calling for belowing freezing, got to love New England. Kind of sounds like you are saying 80 degrees but a lack of sun, and wet. Put them out, and let them recieve and drain, hopefully you have a well draining soil.

I do sympathize

Been out to your neck of the woods about 6 years ago, even though you appear somewhat unhappy, from what I have seen, I am envious, although that summer brown would get to me after a while I think. Our summers get pretty hot but the humidity is what gets us here, at least it stays nice and green. Have you tried to do a grape bonsai, maybe a nice Merlot is what you need

You guys are all a bunch of weenies! Here in "God's country", we got 80's in February, and three days ago we got a foot of snow with overnight lows in the 20's. I check the ten-day forecast every day, and any night with a forecast of less than 37, everything deciduous comes in. Put them in an east window (and a west window if I run out of space), cut back seriously on the water, and take the opportunity for some training time. I know it's not the best scenerio, but what else can you do?

Finally got them back out this morning, hopefully for the rest of the season. Misjudged a couple of weeks back, and got some design help from Mr. Frost.

Kazoo,
Just south and west of you , and yeah, the weather has been kinda crazy. Nice for watering the last month, though, haven't done that a whole lot. It's coming ( the warm weather), and it's about time. Short growing season. What ya gonna do?

dripper timer???

Greetings Kazoo,
what kind of timer do you have on your system? Does it have a variety of programs to use? I bought a timer from Home Depot and it allows me to water for any length of time I want, once, twice, or three times a day, on what ever days of the week I wish. Right now it is set for 15 minutes a day, every other day starting on Monday....which means it winds up watering Sunday and Monday but it's better than only three days a week... Our weather has been a bit funny lately too, mid eighties, but low humidity.

I will be adding a 2nd cycle to each watering day and start watering every day when the high eighties get here. The latest addition to the system were some sprinkler heads from Drip Works, called Shrubblers. I bought the ones on their own stakes, for easy placement. The head is not much more than a dripper with 6 streams coming out around the head. It is adjustable from zero up to a 13 inch pattern, for larger plants. Standard drip heads tend to water a very small area, with these "shrubblers" you can water a large area even on a small plant, much better coverage. I ordered some more and need to put them on more plants.

But I'm getting off track here....(sorry) The programable timer with all these possible settings is great!

Be careful that you don't boil them. Water in those driplines can get pretty hot during the time they're not running. Maybe you could add another timer inline on a 12/12 cycle and only run the water at night?

Regards,

Matt
