HeyMikey Collector Pin

I am researching interest in the creation and sale of a collector pin to memorialize HeyMikey and help fund the effort to establish a memorial at the GSBF collection-north.

Bonsai pins are commonly worn on convention jackets and happi coats but they've found a following among collectors.

1) Would you be interested in purchasing a HeyMikey pin if the price were $15-20 USD?

2) Do you have an idea about a design for the pin? Feel free to submit a concept. Knowing Mike, humor is completely appropriate and probably mandatory. But a graphically simple design is best: the pin is probably under 1 sq inch so not too detailed!

3) Anyone with any past experience in pinmaking would be quite helpful. If you can suggest a vendor, etc. Offline is fine.

THIS POLL IS PUBLIC so we can contact the folks who express interest with more details.

Regards,

Matt

I guess it would depend a little on what the pin looked like. Probably couldn't shrink one of his photoshop pics down to pin size.

PS don't forget to bid on the new batch of auctions.

Looking good!

BTW, here's the Katakana for "Broccoli Bonsai" unless you don't have the character set in your browser in which case it probably looks like a mess.

ブロッコリ 盆栽

If you don't have the character set I will attach it below as an image. I need to find a better font as this one is pretty coarse.

Regards,

Matt

P.S. One L in broccoli

Matt,
I realize you are thinking of GSBF collection funding, but, most collector pins sell for $5.
Ron Reed from Oakland area was the dealer for many pins a few years ago through Bill Valavanis ( Ron got mine done) . But, Bill Valavanis has great contacts now for production and the artwork and has produced a huge amount of them over the last several years..
Regards,
Dale

Hi Dale,

Yes I understand. However, this is a limited edition fundraiser. There would be no fundraising if the pin sold for $5. Most people selling pins at that price are using them as promotional items, and only trying to recover their production costs.

Thanks for the information about Bill.

Regards,

Matt

Hi Matt! I would be willing to do a ceramic pin, earthenware, for a limited edition for free. It wouldn't have the colors or the delicacy of the enamelled ones, but I can send you some examples of what can be done. They have a totally different charm. I do them often for fundraisers, as well as awards and convention pins (not for bonsai though, that would be a new area)

If the pin is free, and people like it, then all of the sales money could go toward the fund....no up front costs. We would have to see if we could find a design that would be suitable.

Just a thought.

Matt,
I'll take one. I like both of the Brocolli designs Aaron kicked in, but will be pleased with any of them. John
