Help me pick a new avatar?

I have been thinking recently about changing my avatar to better reflect my interests and to give me something new to look at....

JTriptow was kind enough to create a couple ideas for me, thanks Jennifer, you are indeed a wonderful artist. I appreciate your time and effort, great work on both!

What do you think?

i like the idea of #2, but the silohette of the archer looks too cartoonish - it doesnt go with the rest of the drawing very well. Too obviously cut and pasted.

I think that you have to choose whether you want to be shafted in the Yin or in the Yang,

Interesting that she decided to have the shaft on the male side, is it not?

People often ask me why the yin yang for bonsai not realizing the seasonal meaning behind the Chinese math that created the symbol.

"In general, the Yin Yang symbol is a Chinese representation of the entire celestial phenomenon. It contains the cycle of Sun, four seasons, 24-Segment Chi, the foundation of the I-Ching and the Chinese calendar."

Not being familiar with the word, "avatar", I've been surfing around for meaning. I still don't know what it means in relation to this site. For instance:

================================================== ========
What is an Avatar

AVATAR is a word that is commonly heard but rarely understood. In English, the word has come to mean "an embodiment, a bodily manifestation of the Divine." However, the Sanskrit word Avatara means "the descent of God" or simply "incarnation." Here is the definition based on India's ancient Vedas, the oldest and most comprehensive spiritual literature known to man:

The Avatara, or incarnation of Godhead,
descends from the kingdom of God for [creating
and maintaining the] material manifestation.
And the particular form of the Personality of
Godhead who so descends is called an
incarnation, or Avatara. Such incarnations are
situated in the spiritual world, the kingdom of
God. When They descend to the material
creation, They assume the name Avatara.
( Chaitanya-caritamrita 2.20.263 -264)
================================================== =======

More:

Function: noun
Etymology: Sanskrit avatAra descent, from avatarati he descends, from ava- away + tarati he crosses over —more at UKASE, THROUGH
Date: 1784
1 : the incarnation of a Hindu deity (as Vishnu)
2 a : an incarnation in human form b : an embodiment (as of a concept or philosophy) often in a person
3 : a variant phase or version of a continuing basic entity
================================================== ========
Now, would someone please enlighten me at to the word's meaning as applied to this site?

Mike,

The "Avatar" is the small "picture" available under the user name on the left hand side column. I have a selection of "Pot sides" which i change on a regular basis, while I recently changed to a nice pic of our Westie dog "Ellie".

The updated pic then applies to every post you make (or have made) on this forum.

See under "User CP" to set yours.

Regards,
Ian.
