Help ID

Hi Bonsai fellowship,

Can someone please identify what these guys are?

I bought them a couple weeks ago from a local nursery, both were sold to me as “Cypress”, but everyone calls cypress to scale conifers and pines to needle conifers, so that didnīt help at all.

I think the first one is a Juniperus procumbens, but Iīm clueless about the other one. It has short-needle-type foliage, but is much softer than that of Junipers, so I donīt know.

And the last one, I think itīs a Eucalyptus, but donīt know the species.

Help please!!

Regards,

My guess on #58567 & 8 is San Jose juniper.
No clue on the other two.

58567 and 58568 are juniperus chinensis (other wise know as san hose juniper) I think 58569 & 58570 are cryptomeria japonica (japanese cedar). The other ones leaves look a bit like a fuschia?

I agree that the first one looks like a juniper of some sort.

The second one is a little harder. It could be juniper, or a cryptomeria, but I'm guessing it's actually a Chamaecyparis. You should be able to tell by feel. If the needles are soft and flexible, it's probably a Chamaecyparis. If the needles are very stiff and spiny, it's probably a juniper. If the needles are fleshy, but not particularly sharp, it's probably a cryptomeria.

The third one looks like Eucalyptus to me.

Re: Help ID

Hi rxweitz,

Thank you very much for your post, I now think the first one is a Juniperus chinensis "San Jose", and I agree with you I visited a nursery website and I think the second tree could be a Cryptomeria japonica "compressa" or a Chamaecyparis pisifera "Tamu Himura", I donīt know for sure but by the pictures they look similar.

This is the page: http://www.tinytreasuresnursery.com/Genus/Page%20C.htm

About the third tree, Iīm still having doubts it looks like a Eucalyptus or a Corymbia.

Best Regards,

Napo
