Help with adopted Jade....
I recieved this as a gift from my aunt a couple weeks ago, it was in bad health, looking better now... But I have no idea where to take it from here!
Its been potted in very moist organic potting soil, and my research tells me jade's should be kept on the drier side, I have watered it once (submersion) and its still soaking wet... Help me guys/gals ![]() Those are black rocks you see on top... More pictures to come (gtg to stats class) Thanks, Adam |

Think of the Jade almost as you would a cactus. Drier side is an understatement... resist all temptation to water this plant as you would other housplants!
I made that mistake myself with a large gifted jade, and most of the plant turned into mush and rotted. I've been thoughtfully neglecting him, and he has bounced back to full health. The rule of thumb is sparse water, plenty of sunlight, and well draining soil (consider repotting with a fast draining inorganic soil). Good luck! |

i would like to add that the best way to tell when you should actually water jades a little is when the leaves begin to get wrinkly and almost seem to be wilting.... this will encourage a wandering root system as well which is very beneficial to the plants overall health and the creation of nebari.....
You should probably pinch back the foliage a little to encourage some back budding. |

I would, also remember that these guys develop a very weak root system, even in the wild here. i tie all of mine down and only water when it seems dire, every two or so weeks. otherwise moving them around will damage the roots, as they can become very tope heavy.
