Vance, A very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you young fellow.

Long may you flourish as strongly as your trees.

The above was unintentionally plagiarized from Ashbarns9999. Full credit should be attributed to them.

Happy birthday, Al

Happy Birthday

To the man who I can say was one of my first teachers and influences in bonsai (even though we've never met face-to-face) Happy Birthday. May there be many, many more to come.

Thank you one and all for the kind words. I have not been ignoring this thread, I have been out of town looking after an ill mother.

As to the young man thing; in relation to Methuselah yes I am a child, but in relation to most of the rest of you I am an old fart. I do remember a day when I was the teenage bonsai Phenom many moons ago. So enjoy it while you've got it because the only thing that gets better with age are your trees, a good wine and cheese, everything else is just spoilage.

BTW Vance, I'm fascinated that you are a lute maker and play 16th century music. Play a tune by John Dowland or Thomas Tallis and think of me. I'll be listening.

Mike

I can do that but I will have to substitute Francesco DaMilano for Tallis. I am surprised someone here is familiar with the literature.

Vance, I've been a fan of the baroque and earlier for many years. I'm mainly a Bach head, but have quite a bit of choral music by composers such as Dowland, Tallis, Palastrina, William Byrd, etc. Also a few cds of music for lute, some on lute and some on guitar. Anyway, I love ancient music.

Mike

If you like Bach you'll love DaMilano. Very interesting music especially when you consider it was written in the first half of the Sixteenth Century for an instrument like the Lute; Four part moving counter-point. If you have never heard his music I suggest you try to find Julian Bream's album "The Woods So Wild". There are other Lutenists that play Milano but none as well as Bream did.
