Most these kids who deface websites for fun couldn't hack their way out of a wet paper bag with an axe. And in case one of them is reading this, I will gladly challenge you....My IP, you get 24 hours, then it's my turn.

Will

If defacing the Wiki counts, Will, have the IP address of a certain forum member in Seattle - you might be able to sell some bathroom graffiti, or maybe an Edsel? The Wiki gets hacked all the time. It's practically designed to be hacked, so I have to check every couple days for graffiti.

But you wouldn't expect a forum member to do it!

Regards,

Matt

I guess I should point out that I don't know this.

1. A kilocalorie (kcal) is the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of a liter of water by one degree C.

2. Watts are a unit of power, not energy, so it isn't comparable. You'd need to apply that power for a certain period of time (watt-seconds) to actually perform useful work.

The electrical company charges you for ENERGY (measured in kilowatt hours) not for power. So feel free to use all the power you want. Just don't use it long.

By the way - back of the envelope calculation says if you put 100 watts into a liter of room-temperature water for an hour, you could bring it to about the boiling point. It isn't a huge amount of power, though. We used to model heat output from a person in a room using a 100W bulb, but some probably radiate more - some less

Oh come on, Matt - lighten up!

That wasn't a useful contribution? I thought that image would cause no harm whatsoever and would bring a smile or two to folks' faces.

(For those who missed it, I added this picture of a tapir's backside to the wiki entry for "reverse taper")

Pardon me, fine fellows. I am nothing close to a geek in terms of computers or electrical engineering, but I happen to be a freak about grammar and vocabulary.

IMHO, any $%&#@ son of a %*+@! that accesses a computer without permission is a "hacker," regardless of the supposed 1337-ness of the super-1337 geekatrons who claim that they are superior because they "truly hack" and don't "merely crack."

I don't see any reason to play into the games of the "hackers" about who is more 1337 than who. Screw 'em all, they're all hackers if they gain access without authorization, regardless of how easy it is to gain access. After all, a trespasser is a trespasser whether they scale a wall and dodge a laser sensor, or just walk across you lawn

pootsie --- completely not 1337

Oh shut up.

Carl,

That was a tapir's backside? It looked a lot like Nancy, the waitress here at the Bloated Goat Saloon.

Carl,

No it wasn't a useful contribution.

There is a fundamental difference between what's posted here in the forum, which includes a lot of banter and joking, and what is presented as factual content in a FAQ or Encyclopedia, where it obstructs the goal of creating an online reference. I am sure that interpretation wouldn't be any different if you posted something like that on Wikipedia.

Probably the guy who posted "Smoke Weed - Party On!" on the Asagao Bonsai Club page was trying to be funny too. Maybe UBtz was expressing his own sense of humor with the Grinch on Bonsai Web?

Regards,

Matt

Incidently, changes along with IP addresses are logged in the bonsaiWIKI archive, indefinitely, along with every other change that has ever been made.
