Green stuff

Hey all In this wet season [San Francisco Bay Area ] My pots are getting covered with green stuff definent not moss. Collects on soil and top dressing and even on sides of pots. Please how can I get rid of this stuff. All advice I will be thankful far and willing to try almost anything. Thanks much leepuc IT LOOKS AWFUL

It might be a fungus called trichoderma viride. which grows on almost anything when it is very humid.

It looks like this:

If the picture and descriptions corresponds with what you have then you can get rid of it by spraying directly on the mould with a 2% sodium hypochlorite solution (bleach). Be carefull not to spray on the trees or living plants around.

Any way to move things under cover and let them dry out a bit? The devil you can't see is probably much worse than the one you can - conditions like that can lead to root or crown rot if they persist.

Just to second what Matt said....it's from all the rain we've been having, and if your soil mix isn't free draining, make sure and tip some containers to make sure there's no standing water down deep. It's nice that we've had a wet couple of months, but everything comes with a price. It's a good time to think about soil mixes, as this is our repotting season. I say, go big, let the roots breath!!
