Grafting

Hey, i have a weeping ficus that i air layered in need of some branches lower down the tree. its 2 feet tall 3" to 31/2" inches thick. im doin a graft en chop but the grafts ant taking.

any info on the subject i can read to see what im doin wrong?

Chop the trunk lower and cut off any new buds of leaves. That should cause lower budding to create lower branches. The trunk size is to small for the height right now anyways.

ya man it was orig a 6 foot branch,
the lower trunk hasnt had branches in years and i dont think it wants to throw any more out

Hello

Dont worry ficus can bud anywere in the trunk.

I live in Guadalajara and the 90% of the trees growing on the streets are ficus and I have seen horrible pruning and the still send buds. I mean a horrible pruning because they use a Big Knife named "machete" and doesn't leaves a clean cut and offcouse they dont seal the cut. Also I have seen burned ficus back buding. The kind of ficus I talking about in Ficus benjamina.
I have also seen ficus cutting 4inch wide and 20inch long, making roots and back budding.

I think ficus are really hardy plants excep talking about cold conditions.
