Last night and yesterday we in the west of Australia well down south. Had some beautiful RAIN. I was not able to get out to the benches!!. It was heavy.
So this morning on my rounds to see that nothing got damaged and was draining properly. I noticed something (as I have stated I have been trying to do this for 20+ years). That struck me as rather odd. I am a right handed person and the majority of my tree have a right hand movement. Even some of my Yamadori!!!. Has any one else noticed this or is it just me? It would be interesting to find out. Just an HO Pup

But have you approached the trees from their other sides - I bet they all have left hand movement
. Maybe you unconsciously set them up on the bench that way because your right eye is the stronger one, but if it were the left, you'd have done it backwards. Then again... |

Pup,
Funny, I noticed the same thing with most of my trees yesterday as well. The movement from left to right is a recurring theme. After years of training my eyes on text with everything always flowing in this way. I think it has become easier for my brain to register the tree visually if it moves the same. Then again I might be just full of crap and I have most of my trees with their backsides as their fronts. Patrick |

*not touching the side of the road thing*
My (and others...) theory: your trees go left to right because you read left to right. You've been taught from a young age that you start on the left and finish on the right... However, to substantiate this I'd have to look at the bonsai collections of anyone raised to read Hebrew (they go right to left). Look around, this goes for paintings , pictures, advertising, etc. Anything with the motion going the other way strikes a discordant note..... even if its subconsciously. If it had to do with handedness, all my trees should go the other way! Some do, but most don't. Seems to be cascades that I tend to work right to left mostly, or maybe it's just their movement is more noticeable. Hey, I smell a poll here......have everyone go look at their collections . Could break it down by tropical vs deciduous vs confierous . Susan and crew PS I had to go look ![]() |

The big question with your answer is that the Japanese read up or down. I must ask my mate. Which it is. Although I am sure I will be told before I see him next weekend. Pup

They read top to bottom, right to left except when it is left to right, top to bottom (like us). |

I mainly paint right to left and when i was a kid i used to write right to left too so naturally my bonsai's go right to left. I was a strange left handed kid at school it took me years to learn to put the stick on the right side of a 'y' and get 'd' and 'b' the right way round.
