Fukien help

Kay, my poor tree is still alive, but there is only one little leaf left on it. What I want to know is if I prune some of the branches, will it put more or less stress on the tree? Or will it help with backbudding. There are some longer branches that have to be pruned anyways, so if I do it now, will it hurt the tree.

(little recap, spidermites did it. stupid bugs.)

Leave your tree alone. It will stress the tree to prune it, and even though that may make it produce new growth, it will be using its energy stores to do so. Outwardly it will look "happy" but it won't be.

Give it the best growing conditions and let it come back fully. Trees live on a very long time scale. It needs more time than an animal would to come back from a disease or pest. When it is growing stong and well, then you can prune it.

Good luck!

Watering will be like walking a tight rope now. Fukien tea do not like to dry out, yet because it is stressed it will not need as much water. I would try to water it in the sink with the sprayer and spray the trunk and branchs more than the soil. If you wrap plastic around the pot you can control the soil watering and still spray the trunk and branchs. Good luck!
