Lightbulb Found Maples

i was walking around outside and then i was like COOL!!!! I saw 2 neato maples with like red leaves on the bottom and green on the top.one maple is about a foot and 3 inches high and the other is about 8 inches high. they were in 1 of my grandma's old flower pot on the back porch. i dug them up and transplanted them to 2 small plastic pots for now. and i watered them good with my fertilzier mixed with water that i use for my ficus(too little).is there any chance to make them into bonsai trees? the trees are very thin and have no branches but have leaves comming from the trunk(i dont know what im talkin about haha) what should i do next with them.

Put them in the ground and let grow for a while.

Maples are great - there are probably loads more if you have a good look. A photo would be nice if you have a digital camera/phone etc...

Grow too fast? Don't worry, it's fall. They won't be doing anything very much until march/april (depending on where you live). Where DO you live, by the way?

That will give you chance to go to the local library and find a good book on what to do next. Books have nice diagrams which clearly show how to cut the trees, wire them etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to say "go away and RTFM" - it's just that the question "what do I do next?" is kind of like me finding two bricks and then expecting an architect to explain the concept of house construction in three sentences... :-)

Here's a link to a free bonsai book - I saved you the task of dealing with the library system : http://www.mystral.co.uk/offer.html

Oh - and your name is?

Daryl nice to meet you. My name is Adam, I live in St Louis metro area. Getting them maples in the ground is the best thing for them. They will grow fast but you should be able to control there growth enough.
