I STRONGLY disagree with the whole rating idea. I haven't and I won't rate a post, a tree or a thread. I want to encourage any and all people to post their ideas or trees or thoughts and if we get heavy into the rating thing people are going to be disappointed that they didn't rate any stars or one or two stars.

The problem I have run into on other boards--not just bonsai boards--is that some people end up feeling like only the "hot dogs" or "giants" or whatever have valuable contributions. I think the star rating system contributes to this feeling.

Matt, how about a new pole: how many people vote to keep the star system or get rid of it?

Damn straight, Earl!

(As in, you saw damn straight through my hidden agenda with starting this thread )

I'd love to get rid of those stupid stars. And not only because I seem to be one-magnet.

My 2 cents..... we do not need the stars! Sometimes, OK often, more is.....less!

Perhaps we could substitute a column with the date the thread was started, sure would be more useful then a star rateing... again my 2 cents

Yep - ultimately it doesn't matter if the star/stars are there or not. Sometimes it just adds to the clique feeling. Look at the poll results - someone actually rates a thread by who wrote it. Sheesh! It's pretty bad when a board devoted to bonsai even has a caste system.

I posted that! The who wrote it vote. That was payback for the callous vote by OMC for twigs in pots on my thread.

This forum has stars, paybacks, arguments, dead things, poorly designed things, master pieces, critics. Sounds like a mini soap opera to me. Now wonder I'm hooked, Bonsaial

LOL!

So you're saying you don't rate threads based on who started them, but you do vote in polls based on who started them? That ain't much better, Al...

Cheers,
OMC

...stay tuned for another episode of "As the bonsai turns ."

Al, so if you're the one who rates a thread by who started it - is that why a lot of your's have 5 stars?
