Ok. It's about time I jumped in here.
My name is Paul and I live in southern California about 30-miles north of Los Angeles. I have a backyard full of trees, none of which I would consider a bonsai but I'm working on that. I'm a newsletter editor for our local bonsai club (Descanso Bonsai Society).
I'm 36, married with three kids. I'm a professional geologist (hence my nickname). I enjoy tai chi, brush painting, photography, etc. Regarding photography, I'm slowly getting used to the digital stuff (TB's macro stuff are amazing), but I still work with black and white film and have my darkroom. Photography is kind of like sex... much better when it's hands on

thought id get involved a bit more....

im david, i live in the uk, i am 31 and single

i produce bonsai, live bonsai, but sadly also retail them!!!

the fact that i sell them often places barriers between i and other enthusiasts which is a shame.

my main interest is in european native bonsai which i develop on quite a large scale.

been bonsaiing 15 years and still loving it, also a musician and songwriter which has taken a back seat somewhat.

always willing to talk bonsai and share images etc

best

david

Glad to meet you David.
You are right it is a terrible shame. Pity it is that way. It really should not be.

Larry.
I'm mostly into landscape and archtecture photography, with a bit of macro work thrown in. I've been using a lot of infrared film for the last few years (mostly Kodak HIE). I posted some infrared bonsai photos last year...

Hello everyone,

My name is Stuart, I'm a 14 year-old boy. I live in San Diego, California (in the USA). I just started doing bonsai, but I have a small garden. I hope to be able to grow some cool bonsai and show you guys!

Stuart

Hi!

I'm Jonathan. I'm 19 and I go to Clarkson University. I got into the bonsai thing some months ago when one of my friends got a bonsai tree for christmas and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. Now I have a crabapple tree that will stay at home, and 2 plants that will go with me. One is a bunch of random jade plants, and one is what I am 80% sure is a Norfolk Pine.

And I'll trade you bonsai secrets for guitaring secrets, I've been a guitarist since 10th grade.

This looks like the place to introduce myself. I just signed up.

My name is Brian, I'm in zone 9 in the San Francisco Bay area, been into this hobby for 4 years. I have mostly deciduous trees. I'm not sure I've settled on a favorite species, but I like the evergreen oaks (Q. agrifolia, Q. chrysolepsis, Q. suber) maples. I've used alot of small leafed honeysuckle (Lonicera nitida) and Fuschia thymifolia for forests and rock plantings. I'll post a selection as soon as I figure out my new camera and software.

My other major hobby is martial arts (12 years in Kempo).
Married, two kids
Biochemist/cell biologist by training

Cheers
Brian

Hello,

I never thought of making myself a bonsai enthusiast before I got married...though I love admiring nature, my bonsai appetite was at the bottom level...but ever since getting married my curiosity got the best of me...

I gave out little bonsai starters as my wedding giveaways during my wedding...that is were it all started...

and moving to the US gave me much needed resources to satisfy my wetting appetite for bonsai...

Cheers!
Mike
