Howdy!

I'm Spencer and I'm an illustrator residing in Calgary, Canada. I've always loved anything beautiful or artistic, so naturally bonsai is something I'm easily attached to.

If you'd like to know more about me or my art work check out my website.
If you're an artist yourself, I run an online artist forum and community which you can also access through the same site.

If anyone knows of any online stores that ship to Canada, by all means, please PM me!

Thanks and nice to meet you all!

Hi all, I am new to the forum. My name is Mark. I had a Serissa Foetida some years ago. I loved it but alas it was not meant to be. I am now getting back into it. I have been trying some gardening for the last couple of years and now have expanded back into bonsai after my wife and I decided to build a greenhouse.

I am married with 6 children from 18 to 3. 2 boys and 4 girls sandwiched inbetween. Right now I am a photographer, and soccer coach.

I hope to learn from you all and contribute when I can. Mark

Green Leaf Texas Laurel Bonsai

Quote:
Jim, have you ever tried texas mountain laural for bonsai? They seem like a fair candidate, the leaves aren't too large and they would probably reduce some in bonsai training. I've got some seeds that i plan to start next spring.

Tony
I got 11 distressed [ They said they were dead] Texas Laurel trees from Lowes for 10cents a pop in i gallom containers. ( 9 out of 11 came back and they have entered there new live as a forest. Seem to be happy together so far

New to Forum

Hello to you all, from Vancouver Island, BC Canada,

I'm new to the forum and a relatively newbie to Bonsai, although I've been gardening and growing my entire adult life.

I've worked in the forest industry since 1974, mostly in the Silviculture field so I've been able to see some wonderful native specimens in our temperate rain forests and have been involved in planting about 20 million forest seedlings (helping the carbon sink).

I live on a regular city lot with normal landscaping except for the hundreds of little hidden things growing in pots in every nook and cranny I can find...."enough to start your own nursery" my wife keep telling me. I've purchased a couple of pre-bonsai (JBP, climbing hydrangea, mtn hemlock) from estates that the VIBC offered up but have tried to stick to growing maples (Japanese, trident, vine etc), Kingsville boxwood, larch, mugo pines and shore pines. More recently I’ve tended to try more native trees, spruce, true firs, pines, and mtn. hemlocks….trying to keep them alive after collectionJ

Cheers G.

Hi, i'm pretty new. didnt notice this thread to post here until now.

I'm Heather, I'm 15 and just got interested in Bonsai, got 2 books from the libary and 1 of my own. done a lot of reading.

i have a fairly large collection of small trees, horse chesnuts, sycamores, hawthorn and a so-far unkown species. these may or may not be turned into bonsai.
I also have 2 dwarf conifers, which i need peoples opnion on, and have made a separate thread somewhere on this forum...
Last weekend i got a cotoneaster which will be turned into a bonsai at some point.

I live in the North West of England, Uk. There are several garden centres nearby. One very close has a few bonsais, a slightly further away one has lots of bonsai, and supplies. so i will hopefully be getting another tree sometime soon.

Hello, I'm Yvette and I'm a bonsai nubcake. I've decided to climb out of the dark corner I've been sitting in for the past week or so and introduce myself.

I'm currently a college student living at home, waiting for the glorious day next fall when I transfer to a 4-year university from the local junior college I've been attending. I'm relatively new to bonsai, as it's been a new passion in the past couple of months. Already my library has gained about eight or nine books in three months based around the art, and my garden is starting to turn from potted annuals and tropicals to trees.

I was first exposed to bonsai when I was eight and lived in South Korea (I'm a military brat). I never fully appreciated the art when I lived there, a fact that my culture teacher mourned, as I was the only student in the school that had half a brain for art and gardening. Twelve years later and with a more mature outlook on life and I can't stop thinking about the bloody things.

Gotta love it.

Hey there,

I have registered since a month but didn't recognise this thread. Perhaps, because I put the well-known "i have a tree, please, help!" questions all the time. Because it is still hard to have a picture of what you read and are told about..
I am a senior student, study English Literature&Linguistics, Pedagogy and Social Anthropology in South Hungary. And work as an interpreter and teach piano for children. I like ornithology, nature, gardening and bonsai. My child-dream was to become a great biologist.. Until today I was only a distant wonderer of bonsai.
I always wanted to do bonsai, but could not find any help in my area. Then this year I decided to have a closer look and search... and then I got here. Got pretty much advice within this month, what I am thankful for, so I am "creating" my first ficus trees. Let's see what comes out of it!
Since I am having this "closer look" I am kind of re-descovering my environment: the nature, the people. It is really a new point of view for me -which I like a lot.
Hope all we will find pleasure in discussions on this forum.

have a nice day,
Lilli

Why... hello!

Well, I figured that the first step in getting off the ground here, would be to introduce myself. Handy thing, this thread, since it lets me do just that without the fuss of making my own brand new thread.

I've been an avid fan of bonsai for several years now, I grew up in Nashville, TN living next to my grandparents who had a farm, and a beautifull set of flower gardens tended by my grandmother, whom I often pretended to help. Mostly, I just spent the time getting dirty, like most children do.

I moved to Charlotte, NC last April and have been setting up new roots myself and have been iching to be ready to start working on my house's lawn and various bits of plant life. Since I'll be getting dirty again, I decided roughly around Christmas time that I should start investigating bonsai - It'll give me long term projects to help balance out the day to day maintenance of my first home.

Since last few months of 2007, I've been browing the webber-nets and the books, and tried to get at least a general understanding of some basic practices, the better to give me a better idea of what questions to ask, information to clarify, and ideas to share and ponder on when I finally join up with the local group.

Well, I suppose that's the interesting personal bits, other than that I'm an amatuer artist, and like to at least try my hands at any medium - I think this one will prove to as addicting as any of them that I've put my hand in thus far.

Many thanks in advance, and I hope to be discussing things with you soon!

Trevor / Kush
