Forsythia - culture advise sought
I recently dug a couple of small forsythia from the yard....they have just not done well for the past several years (about 10-12 actually). They seem to have transplanted well - they were sited in deep shade and just survived in the ground - never really thrived - so when the wife said "maybe we should consider planting something else ..." - I was out and at work
![]() Anyway, the cultivar is Forsythia suspensa var. Seiboldii (Weeping forsythia) - it has nice small leaves. Thanks in advance for any cultural advice you can provide. Regards, Tom S. |

They are intolerant of deep shade. They will like part to full sun. I have a few which get some midday shade only.

You should see them pick up by moving it to the sun.
I believe they flower on year old wood so keep them pruned after flowering, and they will bloom like crazy. I wouldn't do much this year though, till they have had a chance to rebound from the transplant. |

All i know is that when i was a lad my folks had one planted at the bottom of the garden and affectionatly reffered to it as 'the trifod'. They kept hacking it back but it just wouldn't be tamed. so they ripped it out and put a buddleja in instead. (now it's my job to tame the buddleja!)
