Update, it worked!

Here it is now! A lot of wood died over the winter when I may have forgotten to bring it in one frosty night, but i have a potensai with a thick base, and its got very strong roots!
Not sure how to go with this one!
First pic is the 'front', the second the 'back'

Larry I know you said very strong roots, but, it is still less than a year since the layer. Give it a year to grow and really grow those roots. Then next year you can start your work on the tree.

Yea, i know, thats why I simply repotted it. I want it to bud out and really get growing for a year or two-next year I may plant it out. I had plans for this when I first made the air layer, but theres not enough 'plant' left to do that with, will have to see how it goes.

looks really good, this has potential IMO. In the picture you said was the back i would turn the pot a little counter-clockwise and call that the front. Great job, I have yet to perform an air layer. Soon though!

Its not as daunting a task as it seems, and if you start with an easy rooter like forsythia or perhaps Willow you'll get hooked!
None-bonsai,but I have in the past rooted a ficus elastica of my Mum's that got leggy, and I was surprised how easy it was! I got two plants there, tho the 'mother plant' branched and looked a bit odd with those large leaves!

Update,check out the roots!

I am amazed at how much roots this plant has(or had before I pruned a few off)

I havent pruned any branches yet as there may be flowers, you never know, but also I just want to let it go.
One of the side roots that looked good came away in my hand, it was just rotten through.(red marker)
BTW, why is it when I upload pics they come out in the wrong order?
