Fo Auction II

Beautiful Triple Trunk Juniper. Just in time for the holidays. The winning bidder will take home a rare triple trunk juniper, sculpted from 30 year old stock. Imagine the crowd at your next dinner party when this beauty is sitting at the center of the table. The jin top is rugged yet adds an elegant touch to what could become the centerpice of your collection. THE TREE STANDS AT NEARLY 25 INCHES TALL!

The tree comes potted in an unglazed TOKONOME three footed pot. The pot is nearly a masterpiece by itself. Care sheet and online instruction available for 20.00 more. Winning bidder to pay all shipping charges. Check, PayPal, Winbid accepted.

Rather than have a vote, I would be interested in how much would you pay for a tree like this. Please, don't be shy. Tell it like it is. I would appreciate comments too. Not that I think this is a good tree, I just like to know what people think. This is how we learn. IF anyone bids over 50.00 bucks please include your comments on why. I think this would be educational too.

Al, I'll start it off. Interesting material, would like to get another picture or two to make a final, but, I see this tree as a twin trunk. The three trunks do nothing for me. My personal choice is to remove the left trunk. The center and the right trunklook better without the third. I would also like to see this tree in a different pot, possible something in an oval, larger than the round pot it is in now!

Jay,
You're right about the it needing to be a twin trunk, unless the outside trunks could be manipulated to throw off the eveness that they now have. but I think you need to bid on this tree first. (faux action II)

If I were one to purchase material online, I would probably bid anywhere from $35 – 55 and have plans to alter the tri trunk somewhat (a good thing.) I would not go higher than that, because, well, I am a cheap-ass. I probably could get raw stock like that for $8.00 (just kidding). stock like that would probably cost around $30-50 around here. I see where some may jump at the chance to get a triple-trunk tree with that height (The power of the written word.)

Myself, I'd probably bid about 30 dollars for it. If the pot is truly a tokoname piece (not that I'd doubt our own Al, but I am supposed to be pretending this is an on-line auction from that big auction site, right?), then it's worth that much at the very least, probably more. And I even have a tree that would look good in it. On the other hand, buying a pot based on that tiny photo, and expecting to actually arrive intact and in perfect condition is a questionable proposition. So I wouldn't go much over $30 for that pot in an on-line auction, even though I might pay several times that if I could see it in person.

The tree itself wouldn't be worth much to me. Especially after reading Walter's recent thread!

(And after Al's $8.00 bid for my stock )

---

If I did have the tree, I'd probably lose both the left and center trunks, and then work out a style for that right-most trunk depending on how flexible it is.

Best regards,
Carl / OMC

Thanks... for the reminder. I did not bid. I would have put a max value on this of $60.00. It would have been for the pot and tree.
I say value, because i do not know if it would be an addition to my collection.

I'd probably put $50 or $60 as the highest bid basically for the pot and the materials; not really something I'd ever bid on.

I don't particularly like the styling but I'd not expect to pay more than $70, regardless the venue.

Probably should have used the word "collected" in there... drive the price up some more...

Ummmm, sorry Al but I wouldn't bid on this at all (you asked for the truth).

Hypothetically, I would break down this tree into how much would the nursery stock be, how much would the pot be and how much would the bonsai artists work on the tree be worth. In Australian dollars, the stock would be $40, the pot $40. So AUS$80 = US$45. I wouldn't pay that but believe that is what the tree would be worth down here in AUS. If in a retail nursery as a "finished" tree it would have a price tag of over AUS$200 ~ US$110.

I too am being honest on this, as asked....
I would not buy this tree. several reasons, juniper is readily available to me, the seller does not seem to know much about bonsai (granted trees can come inside for a few days at a time, a table centerpeice, yeah right). And for it being 30 years old, it looks rather small, and not very attractive (maybe as a twin trunk I would pay 35 again, onlybecasue it is bigger).
