Flowering Malus Halliana
Hello all,
This is my Malus Halliana, age unknown, about 28 cm High with a trunk diameter of 4,5-5 cm. I've fed the tree since about 6 weeks, 4 times, with 10-52-10 (NPK) Since a day or 3 its flowers come out. As the first flower emerged I didn't feed the tree anymore. Photo's are back and front. Should I continue feeding after the flowers are gone with 10-52-10? Should I cut back some of the fruits, to make ik easier to cope for the tree? Hope someone has the answers, till then......enjoy Wessel

The flowers are gone now and little apples are in their places. For every flower came 4/5 apples. I cut some of them away, so the tree doesn't have to stick all its energy in the fruits and left 2 standing. In a month summer starts here in Holland, so when can I cut away all leaves to let them emerge again in a smaller form? How do I feed the tree in that period?
Please help me with this question, cheers Wessel

I've never worked with malus, so maybe someone who has the experience will respond to your post. (Very nice tree, by the way.) I would think if you were removing all of the leaves you should remove all of the apples beforehand so there is less stress on the tree.

G'day Wessel,
I've got two of these beauties [see my gallery], I reduce the fruit crops down to well placed three [3] bundles only and if you want to cut some leaves off, well what I do is just turn it constantly around on the turntable, and remove all the largest leaves, continuing until I feel satisfied, but I wouldn't dare to cut all the leaves off. I planted a seed and it has germinated, and I also have a small cutting on the go. As to feeding, I don't, but my trees are growing in 100% akadama, and I repot each year. Nigel
