Ficus Retusa, My Fifth!

I always enjoy looking back at the development of a tree. In this case this is a Ficus Microcarpa (retusa). It started in September 2000, when I traded Ron Martin one of my paintings for a Black Olive (Bucida spinosa). If you look at the picture on the left of me at the easel, that is the painting Ron obtained in the barter.
Ron decided to deliver it personally, and I was thrilled at the chance to meet him in person. It turns out that Ron brought two trees for us to play with during the afternoon.
Ron styled the first one and then turned me loose on the second one. Ron took the pictures as I progressed and he guided me through the process.
The first picture is the untouched tree.

Finally... the proud finish! This was about two hours later. Yep, I ended up with a sun burn, but who thought of that a time like this!

The final picture of that memorable day. Ron and I had had a few beers along the way, but the tree did get potted. (I'll let you all decide if we were potted along with the tree)!

I forgot to mention that is Ron"s favorite brand in the lower left - in the picture above.

Here is the tree. I took this picture on May 21st (Friday). I sent it to Ron, and he suggested I share this picture with you all.

The Tokonoma pot was won on one of those special Raffles Ron Martin runs once in awhile. I was fortunate enough to hold the winning ticket, which was pulled by one of the Bartenders at Applebys in Sommerville!

I did a little retouching on either side of the pot to hide the floor, since my 3' by 4' background canvas is just too small to for this tree.

THanks, Ron! I couldn't have done it without you.

By the way. I did forget to tell everyone that you took both of those styled trees back to South Carolina. It was about 6 or 8 months later that I wrote you, that if you still had that tree,I wanted it.
