I’m growing them in Florida zone 9 on my front balcony partially shaded and they're doing pretty good! They’re along side my Benjimina and weeping figs.

Sounds perfect. Never been to south/Florida. I used to live in LA, where they stayed out year-'round. Now I have to watch the weather November to March here in Memphis. Did u start them from seed or cuttings? Best trunkage is from seed. Always feel free to e-mail me...............

I think mine are from seed because they still have the taproot but a couple I think are from cuttings. Have you had any experience with aerial roots yet?
You can email me too wuweipenjing@yahoo.com

Yes! They will produce good aerial rootage, but only in sustained high humidity. I need a small greenhouse or big empty aquarium for this. Our humid period is only from May-August and is sometimes intermittent. Would love to see yours someday. Few people have Morety's or know what they are.

Yeah most people just have the Benjimina. There’s a new variation they recently created that's a miniature weeping Ficus that's all the rage right now for it's small wavy leaves. But they're expensive I think. 20 dollars for a ten-gallon is the cheapest I’ve seen this new bread for. Aerial roots are so much fun. It’s a shame most bonsai people never get the chance to mess with AR's. It adds a whole new dimension to the art. Where I live in zone 9 is awesome for my AR's. Are season for good AR's can go from Feb. all the way to Oct. sometimes! The way I train mine is with the straw method or the tin foil method. Are you familiar with these methods of training AR's? They both work well in guiding the roots and aiding in humidity around the root being guided. Check out www.fukubonsai.com if you haven’t already. They mostly do Schefflera but they have valuable info on aerial roots.
