Ficus Leaves Black On Top Rusty On Bottom.

hi guys and gals,
i have some ficus in normal pots (i think theyre benji) , we have just had some torrential rain for the last few days and these trees are doing something weird...all the leaves have lots of black spots on the top and spots of what appears to be rust on the underside ,theyre not wilting at all but it's only today that i have noticed it
are these babys cactus?(dead)
has anybody experienced this before?
i found this on a website and i quote
"When the relationship of the plant with water are abnormal as under conditions of exceptional humidity, small masses of tissue may expand and break out on the surface causing a watery swelling or gall. Frequently the exposed surface becomes rusty in color so that the lesion may be mistaken for a rust caused by a fungus."

sure looks like a fungus to me.. what variety, i haven't a clue.
Get the plant(s) into a dry area. if all the leaves are like this than say a prayer...other wise, You may want to remove affected leaves as there still may be some hope.
What type of soil are you using? Must be good draining for rains like you are having. Normal pots? nursery containers are ok for growing plants in but the mixes many nurseries use are not for long term growing.

peace,

defoliate it!

Hi, i live in australia too! one of my ficus benjamina's had this same problem. dont water it as much about two or three times per week is okay, dont leave it out in the rain, and it wouldnt hurt to take ALL the leaves off the tree, (defoliate) also take off the stumps at the end of the leaves so the branches are left completely bare, it wont hurt to do it this time of year and the new leaves should grow back much healthier! goodluck.
